Container homes idea is a winner

I REFER to the letter of Jenny Durant in The Mercury dated April 25. Well said!

I had occasion to go to Durban from Umtentweni and was astounded by the number of abandoned containers that had been left at the roadside after the floods.

I also noticed on passing the container depots that there were containers that were jumbled in heaps like a Jenga game.

This bears testimony to the fact that there is a glut of disused and damaged containers.

I have personally seen a container converted to house a small family, with adequate space for a kitchenette, toilet and shower.

It certainly would be a more robust and stable house than the shacks the indigent poor have to erect for shelter. MAUREEN VINCENT | Umtentweni
