Tomatoes for Macron
CERGY-PONTOISE: French President Emmanuel Macron was the target yesterday of a bunch of tomatoes hurled by a disgruntled onlooker as he made his first public appearance after his weekend re-election victory.
Reflecting his promise of uniting a divided France following his defeat of far-right leader Marine Le Pen on Sunday, he chose for his first post-election visit the town of CergyPointoise in Paris, a low-income area.
Macron was meeting residents when a bunch of cherry tomatoes whizzed by close to his face, missing him but hitting bystanders. Macron appeared unflustered but keen to move on as rapidly as possible. “No! No! No fighting,” he said. |
