Women killed in shooting
THREE women were gunned down in their uMlazi home on Wednesday night.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said they were declared dead at the scene.
“It is alleged that at 8.30pm, at uMlazi L Section informal settlement, a suspect entered the premises and allegedly fired shots at three females, who were believed to be in their thirties and forties.”
Gwala added that a 5-year-old and 6-month-old were injured.
She said charges of murder and attempted murder had been opened at Bhekithemba SAPS.
KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza expressed shock and disgust at the murders.
Khoza urged the police to ensure that the perpetrator was found and faced the full might of law.
She also extended her condolences to the family of the women and the community of uMlazi.
The department said a team of social workers had been assigned to provide psycho-social support to the affected family.
