Mother’s Day can be challenging
MOTHER’S Day can be very painful for women who are childless, those who have buried a son or daughter, those whose sons and daughters have battled addictions and mental health issues, and for those who have placed their baby for adoption.
I have empathy for you all, especially on days when restaurants are full and moms are rightfully celebrated.
But, it is the latter whom I want to address, women who have made the hard choice to place their babies in the hands of others to rear.
You deserve a standing ovation.
No matter what circumstance you faced then, or where you are now, if I had the power, you’d be guests of honour in top-notch restaurants across the world. Every guest would stand as you entered to take your seat at the head of every table. I’d write a song to be played by a live trumpet quartet, titled Hail to the Mom as you graced us with your presence.
If I had the power, there would not be one birth mother sitting at home longing to know where her baby was and how they were doing in life and feeling excluded because of her magnanimous choice.
Your decisions, even if laced with desperation, make you a Superhero and I express my thanks.
