The ruling party said that a thorough assessment of the state of readiness had been conducted, and it had been concluded that the region was ready to hold the conference.

“It must be credited to the ANC that our members understand that a key feature of the democratic character of the organisation is that its Constitution requires regular conferences at all levels of the organisation,” said party spokesperson Nhlakanipho Ntombela.

The ANC expressed its satisfaction with the manner in which members conducted themselves during biennial branch general meetings building to the regional conference.

“This weekend, delegates from branches will discuss and assess the performance of the organisation in terms of the transformation of society. They will also refine strategies of the organisation in order to ensure their relevance and impact in driving socio-economic development in this important region,” said Ntombela.

The Musa Dladla Region is the second largest after eThekwini and may influence the outcome of the provincial conference set to be held between June and July this year. The contest for the position of chairperson will be between Thembekile Mchunu, the wife of former chairperson Senzo Mchunu, and Mdudusi Mhlongo.

According to Ntombela, the conference will be held at Meet Mekaar Resorts Umtubatuba, on the north coast this weekend.
