VARSITY College beat Durban Collegians 18-9 in a hard-fought Optimum Premier Division Moor Cup league game at their Riverside Headquarte­rs in Durban North on Saturday afternoon.

This is the first time they’ve won this fixture in 10 years.

Mvelo Mlangane crossed for the only two tries in the tense encounter with flyhalf JP du Preez kicking two penalties and a conversion.

In the other games, Richards Bay beat the students from UKZN Pietermari­tzburg

39-12 while Brandon Bailing led the charge with four tries in Synergy Westville Old Boys’ runaway 114-7 victory over UKZN Durban.

College Rovers had Phiko Sabahlo in fine form with three touch downs in their convincing 94-19 win against Amanzimtot­i Rugby Club.

Capital Legacy Crusaders had a bye and will be the only Premier Division side in action this weekend when they meet UKZN Durban on their home grounds in Durban North.
