Monitoring water quality an important task

- Sanitation

WATER is life and an absolute essential of human life.

The quality of water determines the quality of life. It is therefore important to ensure that the water we get is of the highest quality standard.

September 18 is World Water Monitoring Day, and a reminder that we all must regularly check and monitor our water resources to ensure quality water supplies for all living creatures and the environment.

The goal of the day is basically to educate the public about water sources and the subsequent safety inspections that should be carried out regularly to ensure the highest standards of quality water.

Regular monitoring of our water resources will ensure that those resources are protected from pollution that negatively affects the quality of water. Through regular water testing, we are more likely to quickly detect and identify any issues.

This also directly translates into coming up with a solution before it becomes too late.

Pollution is a major threat to our water courses. We must take care of our water sources and prevent their pollution.

Pollution also poses a threat to water supply security as it reduces the amount of water fit for use. It is therefore critical that we protect our water resources for water security, especially in a water-scarce country like South Africa, as water has no substitute.

The celebration of World Water Monitoring Day must be a reminder that water is life, and we must always play our part to ensure that water resources are protected from pollution.

The day must also encourage communities and municipalities to take care of water resources and protect them and ensure that everyone has access to clean and quality water.

As we monitor the quality of water in our water resources, let us monitor the quantity of the available water and ensure that we always use water in a wise, sparing and more conservative manner for water security for the current and future generations.
