Maimane puts his hand up for president post
FORMER DA leader and founder of the One SA Movement, Mmusi Maimane, has officially entered the political race to become South Africa’s president after launching his political party, Build One South Africa (Bosa).
With the country’s 34% unemployment rate, Maimane has promised to create jobs and ensure every household is afforded the dignity that comes with a job.
Maimane was speaking during the launch of the party in Naledi, Soweto, at the weekend.
Through the party, Maimane said, he would prioritise entrepreneurship, health care and education.
“The dream I hold for this country is that it will not only improve education, but an economy that will put jobs in every home. A job is important because it gives you dignity; and an income in your home. I want the township economy reinvigorated.”
Maimane also promised change in the country’s political landscape.
“I am not just standing for president, but want the best Cabinet in 2024, made up of people who can say we work for the people, not against them. We have to get the best leaders who work for the people.”
Maimane said entrepreneurship was key to tackling the high unemployment rate.
“I want the township economy reinvigorated by setting up capital so that businesses can be started in the townships, digital companies can work in our communities, cooks, builders. I want people closer to their homes so they can see their children.”
Electoral reform was needed, he said, to ensure Parliamentarians were held accountable to the people they served.
