THE RESERVE Bank says it will be launching its first commemorative banknote series, in celebration of the centenary of the birth of the first democratically elected president, Nelson Mandela.
These notes will cover all denominations: R10, R20, R50, R100 and R200.
As part of the celebrations, the SA Mint will be issuing a new commemorative R5 coin into circulation.
The bank said test packs of the commemorative banknotes had already been made available to the broader cash industry to make adequate preparations for adaption to cash processing and cash dispensing machines and ticketing machines.
It is envisaged that these notes will be brought into circulation by July 18. – African News Agency (ANA)
