Con­gos to build $550m bridge link

KINSHASA: The African Devel­op­ment Bank (AfDB) and Africa50 yes­ter­day signed an agree­ment with the Demo­cratic Repub­lic of Congo (DRC) and the Repub­lic of Congo to de­velop and fi­nance the first road-rail bridge project link­ing their cap­i­tals – Kinshasa and Braz­zav­ille.

The project con­sists of a 1 575km toll bridge over the Congo River. It will in­clude a sin­gle rail­way track, a dou­ble-lane road and a sin­gle bor­der check­point at each end, con­nect­ing roads in both coun­tries. The cost es­ti­mate last year was $550 mil­lion (more than R7.6 bil­lion). | African News Agency (ANA)
