THE Brighton Beach SAPS are investigating charges of attempted murder and assault after three people were shot during an altercation on Foreshore Drive on Saturday night.

Two women are in a critical state in hospital, while a man sustained moderate injuries during the shoot-out.

According to police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala, it is alleged the shooting occurred when an argument between two groups of people “became heated” on Saturday night

“The firearms used during the altercation were seized by police and will be subjected to ballistics testing,” Gwala said.

Garrith Jamieson from Rescue Care said the three people were taken to hospital after sustaining gunshots to their upper bodies.

Meanwhile, there was a break-in at a store at a Bluff shopping centre in Tara Road in the early hours yesterday morning.

The centre was closed to the public yesterday morning as police did a sweep to determine if the thieves were still in the building.

Gwala said a case of business burglary was being investigated by Brighton SAPS.

“It is alleged that, in the early hours of this morning, unknown suspects entered through the roof of a business premises on Tara Road. They stole cellphones and watches. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
