Transformation input urgently needed

Acall has been made on members of the South African Poultry Association to urgently provide information on any individual transformation initiatives undertaken by their companies to assist the association in its engagement with the South African government.

SAPA’S Christopher Mason says the plight of the local industry has been widely covered in the media over the last few months. As a consequence of the current crisis, government is engaging with the association at the highest level, and is committed to assist in finding a solution.

“In the various meetings held with government officials, the status of transformation in the poultry sector is constantly questioned, which SAPA is unable to address in full as we are not aware of individual producer transformation initiatives,” he says. “To help rectify this, we are asking SAPA members to write to SAPA on your company letterhead as a matter of urgency detailing any transformation related initiatives your company

is involved in - no matter how big or small, as well as initiatives you intend to embark on.”

Mason asks SAPA members to also indicate in the letter who the main contact person is in their organisation responsible for managing the individual transformation activities.

“If SAPA is to continue the current positive engagements with Government, we will need to start providing evidence of what is being done around transformation. As the future of our industry is at stake, your positive response to this request would be greatly appreciated,” he says.

Please send your letters to Christopher Mason by email to christopher@sapoul¡
