Housing commission to look at consultation venue
THE housing commission formed by Lukhanji Municipality to investigate the claims of the sale of RDP houses and alleged tampering with beneficiary lists in the municipal area is still finalising logistical arrangements.
The deadline for the commission to report to the office of Lukhanji executive mayor Nozi Makhanda is May 30.
Serving on the body are human settlement head councillor Andiswa Hulushe, councillor Makhwenkwe Ndinisa, chief whip Sinethemba Dyantyi, councillor Mthuthuzeli Hokolo, chief Siviwe Hebe, attorney Jaco van Jaarsveld, Adre Bartis of Harcourts, representatives of the regional department of human settlement risk and fraud unit, the housing beneficiary section of the regional department and the crime intelligence unit.
The commission was established on March 30 in an ordinary council meeting. The Rep reported (“Housing commission starts work,” April 10) that the commission had started working and was expected to report on May 30.
However, a source within the commission said this week that although the commission had already met and elected their structure, work had not yet started.
“I do not know what happened because everything is quiet now. We did our timetable, which showed the dates and what we would do on those dates.”
Lukhanji spokesman Fundile Feketshane confirmed the commission had been set up and had had meetings “in the establishment phase” but added that it was still “finalising logistical arrangements as it relates to the venue for public consultations.”
“We shall call a media briefing and outline all the processes including publishing an advert to that effect,” he said.
