Talks on Safa conflict

- By Tembile Sgqolana

PROBLEMS in the South African Football Association (Safa) Chris Hani district’s Lukhanji football association (LFA) will come under the spotlight in a special meeting between the Safa provincial leadership and the district leadership this weekend.

The divisions started when the Queenstown zone lodged an appeal on behalf of nominees Sandile Mata and Phumelele Hlathi, who were nominated as chairman and deputy chairman, after a let- ter from Safa Chris Hani region deemed the two ineligible to contest the elections.

The national office of Safa intervened and asked for the elections to be postponed. A new LFA structure was later elected under the leadership of chairman Sandile Mbizweni.

After the LFA was elected, the Queenstown zone continued with their league as it claimed it was the legitimate structure, while the LFA had its own league and was recognised by Safa Chris Hani. The Rep reported (“Parallel structures raises ire of football body,” April 24) that Safa Chris Hani district chairman Mzimkulu Ndlelo criticised the formation of a parallel structure by the Queenstown zone and recognised the structure led by Mbizweni.

Safa provincial secretary Isaac Klaas said they would meet with the Chris Hani region this weekend “I guess all your questions will be answered after the meeting.”
