TARKASTAD

– The NG Kerk bazaar on Saturday was a real success. It turned into a community event with 15 potjies entered in the competition. The champion pot chef was Willie Liebenberg with a neck and shin pot, second was Wynand Geldenhuys with a “afval” pot and third were Dewalt and Lisa Hattingh from Queenstown. Danie Pottas won the prize for the most attractive stand and the most unusual was won by Sune van der Merwe. The hunting packages were won by Simon Sparks, 1st prize, John Robinson, second and Santica O’Connor, third. Although the wind blew, it did not deter the contestants and supporters. The coffee shop was well attended and the bazaar table sold out early in the afternoon. Congratulations to the organisers for a great fun day.

ROY (Choem) Hayes was invited to be the auctioneer at the Girls’ High School fundraiser in Queenstown. He was his usual entertaining self and assisted in pushing for top prices for all on offer. Well done, Choem.

to Elizabeth (Dolly) Classen who celebrated her 99th birthday at Tarka Home on Saturday. It was good to see Gerrie Erasmus, her son-in-law as well as grandson Morne and Monja who previously lived in Tarkastad.

- Congratulations to Karen Kruger and Jacques de Villiers on their engagement. Karen is the elder daughter of Herklaas and Florence Kruger of Schoemanskraal. She owns a hair salon in Queenstown and Jacques is an agricultural representative.

The Krugers’ other smashed into the barrier outside the business. The speed humps that have been replaced at the entrance to town could not slow the vehicle enough to prevent the accident. Two occupants were injured, one having to be removed by the “jaws of life.”

is the untimely passing of Ockert Olivier, son of Antoinette and Johan Olivier and brother to Annette Viviers who were all previously of Tarkastad. Sympathy to his family and friends.

WINTER

STUTTERHEIM

- Last weekend all three Stutterheim Country Club hockey teams - the ladies’ A and B and the men’s team - were in action. The ladies’ B team lost 1-4 to Old Boys with Justine Richter scoring for Stutt. The ladies’ A team had an 11-0 win over Nkonkobe with Julie-Ann Cawthorn, Sammy Neethling and Trish Krause all scoring.

The men’s team had a 1-2 loss to Buffaloes in a hard- fought but even encounter.

ON Saturday golfers played in the betterball Stableford competition sponsored by Elliotts Attorneys.

The winners were Mark Daniel and Lyle Mundell on 50 points. Second were Hannes Oelofse and Harold Kleber on 47 points and third were Buck King and Francois Sparks on 46 points. Closest to the pin on 3rd/12th was Lindy van de Vyver and on the 9th/18th it was Francois Sparks.

NUMBERS at the parkrun have been fairly consistent but lower since Easter with between 30-35 athletes completing the course. This drop in attendance is mainly due to school holidays, long weekends and winter school sports fixtures taking regulars out of town and is the trend across most parkrun venues in the Eastern Cape. However it is anticipated that a large crowd will visit Stutt tomorrow to take part in the Round Table 103’s annual Stutt Stumble.

There are indications that regular parkrunners from East London will be coming through to do the Stutt parkrun, followed by the Stutt Stumble. There is also a farmers’ market taking place at Eagles Ridge where the Stumble will also be taking place.
