Honours for Vukani presenter
Award for business show
VUKANI Community Radio Station presenter Marcia Mrubata won an award for presenting the best business programme during the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) and Sanlam community newspaper awards in Johannesburg recently.
Vukani is based in Cala and broadcasts in the Chris Hani area.
“When I received the email notifying me that I was a finalist, I could not believe it,” she said in an interview with The Rep.
“I do this with passion and I do my research. I deal with local content and situations to which I am exposed in my environment on a daily basis.”
She said she was grate- ful to various stakeholders for their support in educating rural people interested in the world of business and giving them access to expert advice.
“My show is a channel that bridges the gap between up and coming entrepreneurs; those who are already running their businesses and service providers from government agencies and business forums.”
She was inspired by “real stories from real people” and the challenges they faced.
“One of the most common reasons behind people’s business failures is due to being illiterate, which leads them to be negligent of important business factors such as having sufficient knowledge of managing finances, how to market their products or services and how to handle employees. Another challenge is the lack of interest I see from young people, due to being impatient about not generating revenue as quickly as they want.”
The motivational stories kept her going, she added, saying that an inspiring story was that of a caller who had started out as a street vendor but who had eventually been able to build their own home and enrol their children for higher education.
“I will leave it up to the listeners and my manager to keep up the standard – this is no longer just an ordinary show but an award-winning show,” she said.
