EZIBELENI police made a breakthrough in their fight against dealing in drugs when they arrested two suspects aged 22 and 42 on June 4 and confiscated dagga worth thousands of rands.
Police spokesman warrant officer Namhla Mdleleni said police, reacting to information from the public, found dagga with a street value of R9 000 in a Zone 1 house. Identity documents and bank cards belonging to different people were also seized.
The suspects were arrested and appeared before the Ezibeleni Magistrate’s Court on June 4. Their case was postponed for further investigation.
In an unrelated incident, three men, aged between 18 and 21, suspected of murdering a Sada township man on June 5 were arrested by the Whittlesea police, Mdleleni said.
Mdleleni said the man had been found lying in a pool of blood. He had been stabbed.
The suspects ap- peared before the Whittlesea magistrate’s court on June 8 with the case postponed to Monday for a formal bail application.
Police are also investigating another case of murder at Poplar Grove on June 5. A 29-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death at a traditional ceremony in the area. A case of murder was opened, but no arrests have been made.
In Lady Frere, police arrested a 33-year-old man for the alleged robbery and murder of Ncebakazi Qaliwe, 22, who had gone missing from her home on May 15 in Ngcuka administrative area. A formal bail application will be made on June 15.
Qaliwe’s body was found half buried near a river on May 21.
The Sterkstroom police arrested four suspects in possession of dagga and suspected stolen property at Masakane location recently.
Police were patrolling the area when they received information, Mdleleni said.
