Four die in horror crash
FOUR members of a Cathcart family who lost their lives in a car accident 40km from Laingsburg recently, were laid to rest in Cathcart last Saturday.
Nicholas Zelebele, Pumla Zelebele, Buhle Mathembisa and Simamkele Zelebele died on the scene.
Two sisters and a child were accompanying their brother, along with his fiancée and child, to attend their wedding which should have taken place on the day of the funeral. Two occupants of the car survived. Sylvia Zelebele has since been discharged and Vuyolwethu Mathembisa, who was to have been the bride, is still fighting for her life in hospital.
The accident is alleged to have taken place at around 5am when a head-on collision took place. Sylvia said, “When I came to, the car was stable and I thought we had stopped. I then felt what I thought was sweat on my forehead but it was blood. I called to everyone in the car, but none of them responded. Then I noticed the ambulances.”
She then saw her brother and sister’s bodies and the two children being taken to the ambulance. She and her brother’s fiancée, who suffered broken legs and ribs, were taken to hospital for treatment.
Tobeka Zelebele, the older sister who was expecting them, said she received the news hours after the accident.
“When I went to visit my brother’s girlfriend at the hospital she had heard about her fiancé and daughter’s deaths from the doctor. I think her pain is more emotional than physical.”
