THE poultry section was well supported by its members from the Eastern Cape Poultry Club. 277 birds were entered. Judges came from as far afield as Cape Town to judge the poultry and exhibitors came from as far as Riversdale to show off their poultry.

But it was all left to two local exhibitors to show the rest what poultry showing is about.

Flip Greyvenstein had best Black Australop on show and Sheldon Armstrong was the top achiever, winning 11 out of the 13 breeds he entered. He was also honoured by being named show champion with most points. This came as no surprise as Sheldon has bred and shown poultry since 1989 and is well known for his top quality poultry in the country. Dean Coetzee from Graaff-Reinet had second most points and Trevor Ziemann from Grahamstown was third.

The Eastern Cape Poultry Club was also awarded the certificate for best agricultural stall and thanked the Border Agricultural Society for hosting the club to show at the Tamboekie Festival and expressed the hope that this would be a long term relationship. They also thanked sponsors Border Seeds, the Lingenfelder family from Cape Town and Kwa Majuba.
