AN ETHIOPIAN businessman was shot dead in front of his wife and two-year-old daughter in front of his shop in Sada on Saturday.

Yunhas Dorila, 38, was closing his shop, Gugulethu Store, at about 8pm when three assailants allegedly approached him.

He was shot once in the upper body.

Neighbour Nelisa Maso said Yunhas was a kind man who was always available to help the community.

“I was resting at home when I heard a gunshot. I was shocked when I saw Yunhas lying helplessly on the step, bleeding from his upper body while his wife was crying bitterly, trying to help her husband.”

A private car took him to Hewu Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He was running two businesses at the time of his death.

Community policing forum (CPF) member Bishop Sokkie Gqodwana said crime had become rampant in the area while competition in the business sector had increased substantially, leading to recent calls for the establishment of a for- eign business committee. He said the Whittlesea police station could not be reached as the landlines were out of order for the second consecutive month.

Queenstown cluster spokesman Lieutenant Namhla Mdleleni confirmed that a murder docket was being investigated. No arrests have been made.

She said crime in the Whittlesea area could be reported on the numbers 082-3017 956 or 082-7797 237.

Yunhas will be buried this weekend in Hosaena in Ethiopia. His shops remained closed this week.
