Speedy response officers avert crimes
On Friday evening, a supermarket manager called the Red Guard 24hour control room after a suspect had allegedly stolen items from the store, operations manager Willie Reinecke told The Rep.
The man was apprehended and handed over to the police. The stolen items were returned.
On Saturday, response officers heard a woman scream for help near Brewery Lane.
They reported that a suspect was allegedly about to rape the woman, a student, after she got a lift home with him from a tavern. They assisted her until the police arrived.
In the morning, response officers attended to an alarm at the offices of quantity surveyors in Ebden Street.
They apprehended a youth and an allegedly stolen item was recovered.
The youth was released when the owner declined to open a case.
Shortly thereafter, response officers attended to a panic alarm at a cellphone outlet.
They apprehended a suspect who had allegedly stolen a phone and handed him over to the police.
On Sunday morning, response officers attended to an alarm at a car wash premises, where they assisted the owner to apprehend a suspect who had allegedly previously stolen items. He was handed over to the police.
There was no lazy Sunday for officers who also attended to an alarm at an engineering firm.
It was found that suspects had attempted to steal parts from a vehicle on site, but were prevented from doing so due to the officers’ speedy response. – Rep reporter
