DA’s Bhanga in Komani

- ANDISA BONANI

A federal leader Athol Trollip has lambasted the ANC, saying the party’s leadership made room for corruption and maladministration in local municipalities to flourish, so deviating from the main agenda – to provide services.

Trollip was speaking at the party’s campaign launch for DA premier candidate Nqaba Bhanga at the Thobi Kula Indoor Sport Centre on Friday.

He said the DA had five main objectives to tackle, as the ANC had failed dismally to protect the country from “thugs covered in expensive suits”.

“Our main focus will be to stop corruption, create jobs, secure the country’s borders, improve service delivery and get rid of crime. These are all things the ANC could not do during their tenure.”

Trollip said the removal of former president Jacob Zuma had not changed anything as the ruling party had simply “changed one dirty nappy for another” in President Cyril Ramaphosa.

He urged people to vote for the DA because it was a political party for everyone and not just white people, as the ANC kept saying.

“There are hardly any white people here now, the DA federal leader Mmusi Maimane is black and so is our premier candidate. Our party does not have room for racists and will not tolerate such behaviour from any of our members.”

DBhanga also accused the ANC of turning the local authority into a “monument of corruption and maladministration”.

Bhanga said the ANC was dragging the future of the Eastern Cape into the mud with its empty promises and corrupt ways.

He spoke against churches and traditional leaders who were involved in politics, saying they were supposed to be neutral institutions that did not favour a particular political party like the ANC.

Bhanga said the DA had managed to turn around the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro when they were still in power and that Komani was in a “disgusting mess” compared with what it had been previously.

“All we ask is for people to vote for change, and not vote based on what they used to do.

”I know change is a difficult thing because usually one does not know what to expect.

“The DA is not like all the other parties, we will appoint to positions of power people who are qualified and have the expertise for a particular portfolio. Deployment can be made easy by appointing people in the party who can do the job, and if there are not any, appointing people from outside who have the skills.

“That is what will make this country progressive.”
