The Dordrecht Women’s Agricultural Association ended off their year by filling three vehicles with a group of excited women en route to Ugie.

In Elliot there was a visit to the NG Church, and after the North-East Cape circle outgoing president Ina Bekker joined them in Ugie, breakfast was enjoyed at the Cock & Cat restaurant.

A quick meeting took place and then convener of the day, Elize Oosthuizen, spoke on the day’s programme.

The piggery of Toy and Elize Myburgh was visited, with interesting information shared on breeding, cleaning and marketing.

The group also viewed Elize’s garden and enjoyed her roses. Chris Gouws of Ugie spoke on plants and flowers and motivated the members to be inspired in their own gardens.

The next stop was at Hennie Matthee’s Sterkfontein nursery near Maclear. He started a beautiful garden and nursery on 3ha 48 years ago. It continues to thrive, with stunning corners which allow for relaxation and an area set aside for events.

After snacks, the group left for Maclear for a quick visit to the restaurant and gift shop. – Rep correspondent
