Two killed at tra­di­tional cer­e­monies, three held for mur­der at Mg­walana

Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing two cases of mur­der af­ter a 40-year-old man was al­legedly beaten up at a tra­di­tional cer­e­mony, and an­other fa­tally stabbed, in two sep­a­rate in­ci­dents.

Po­lice spokes­woman Cap­tain Namhla Mdle­leni said the vic­tim sus­tained in­juries which re­sulted in him be­ing rushed to hospi­tal, where he later died.

Mdle­leni said no ar­rests had been made so far.

And in the other in­ci­dent, a 25-year-old Whit­tle­sea man was fa­tally stabbed at a tra­di­tional cer­e­mony. Although a case of mur­der was opened, the sus­pects were still at large as no ar­rests had been made and po­lice were in­ves­ti­gat­ing both cases.

“In Ca­cadu, po­lice ar­rested three sus­pects who will face charges of mur­der. It is al­leged that a 27-year-old man was found near the don­gas at Mg­walana lo­cal­ity. His body had sus­tained in­juries. A case of mur­der was opened, three sus­pects were ar­rested and will ap­pear be­fore the Lady Frere Magistrate’s Court soon,” Mdle­leni said.

Mdle­leni pleaded with peo­ple to take care when en­joy­ing them­selves at tra­di­tional cer­e­monies and also asked them to avoid walk­ing alone in the dark.
