STUTTERHEIM THE ON MANY LAST AFTER
– The town is abuzz with excitement as the Stutterheim Amateur Dramatic Society puts in its final week of preparations for the production of Never Enough. With a grand ensemble of scenes from famous musicals such as The Sound of Music, The Greatest Showman, Les Miserables and many others, the show is set to be a hit for families and anyone else who wishes to have a good old time at the theatre. The show has been choreographed, produced, directed and played in by Sharon Parker whose tireless efforts continue to astound anyone who has ever worked with her. The people of Stutterheim are bound to enjoy the show.
community is set to bid a fond farewell to the Lanzes who are leaving Stutterheim after a tenure in the town of 30-odd years. Both Brian and Linda have taught countless prominent Stutterheim people, shared their talents for writing in this publication and in the “What’s New” and have built enduring friendships in town.. They will be sorely missed by the community as a whole.
May 2, the community was shocked by the tragic passing of Kristian Mostert, 15. A student at Tall Trees, he was on his way there on his motorbike when he had an accident. His funeral was conducted by Ds Deon Strydom on Monday. Beyond being shocked and saddened the community conveys its sympathy to Kristian’s family and close friends. “Requiescat in pacem”.
people were warming up their throats and preparing their most convincing rhetoric for Wednesday’s national and provincial elections. Several prominent citizens and members of the IEC were understandably nervous for the day, what with the town’s recent track record with civil engagements. Tensions have been high in town since several municipal buildings were burnt down last October. The municipality is still not fully functional, with the streets still very dirty. Moreover, during the violence which lasted until February, threats were made against the peaceful conduct of the elections this week. In fact, a great many people were prevented from registering to vote by this violent action. It is sincerely hoped it will be a day of peaceful exercise of democratic rights and values.
Saturday the U15 and open boys’ rugby teams from Stutterheim High went to Mthatha for Border Country Districts trials. The boys played hard and made a good impression. Of the boys who Michael Kapp (first team and U15 coach) took to the trials, five were selected to play in the Border side. Antonio de Beer, Phikolomzi Mbishe, Zanokuhle Bomela, Jonathan Blom and Breyton Martin were chosen for the open side along with Jay Mashaba, Likhaya Dodo and Liyema Qwenga for the U15s. We wish them well.
winning the East Cape Provincial XCO race in Port Elizabeth, Nathan Weise was selected to represent the Eastern Cape team in the third race in the SA National XCO cup series in Mankele, Mpumalanga. He travelled to Mankele via Johannesburg and stayed on a beautiful farm surrounded by macadamia farms just outside of Nelspruit during which time he was able to acclimatise to the altitude as well as familiarise himself with the track. This is compulsory for each entrant to make sure that they can do the technical sections and minimise potential dangers in the race. The track was a challenging one with many steep climbs, rocks, some big drop-offs and many tree roots he had to work his way around. Despite all these challenges, Nathan had a good race, against some tough competition and garnered fourth place.
