A QWhat do you do? I am employed as a labour relations officer. It is my field of specialisation and I am a Nehawu shop steward (regional chairperson).

What do you enjoy about it?

I enjoy representing and protecting workers from being violated in the workplace and also ensuring workers work in a safe and healthy environment.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, The Rep has reported on many cases of workers being worried about their safety at work. What do you think is important, for both employers and workers, to ensure everyone s safety as we move forward?

The safety of workers is very important.

The employer has an obligation to provide and maintain a workplace that is safe, without risk to the health of workers as per the dictates of the Occupational Health and Safety Act [OHS], as amended.

Workers, on the other hand, must be conscious of the health and safety regulations.

How do you think the president has handled this crisis?

The two-pronged approach that seeks to kick-start the economy while also putting measures in place to provide access to health care during this pandemic is commendable. Protecting people s jobs and

’ livelihood is important.

They say there is a silver lining to everything. What positive lesson have you learned during this time?

I have learnt to think outside the box, in that it is important to make room for changes that may emerge, depending on the current situation.

As a God-fearing woman, I have learnt that God is present in my home and is not only found in a church building.

When you are not working what do you do?

I read books like Daily Wisdom for Leaders by John C Maxwell, Fidel Castro, My life and Long Walk to Freedom.

One thing you cannot leave the house without?

Phone and face mask.

Which do you prefer, cooking or washing the dishes?

I enjoy cooking.

The best gift you ever received? The best gift I have ever received is life itself, my parents and my children.

The best thing about Komani? Komani has produced music legends and is known for its warmth. The people of Komani love on another level, they love others and are welcoming ... even in Ezibeleni, which means a place that welcomes.
