The Rep

What do you think about…

- LUZUKO FUNDILE

Countless community leaders break the laws of the country at will and in many instances walk away with a slap on the wrist, only to find themselves on the wrong side of the law again. Last week, The Rep ran a story about a politician who was caught allegedly breaking the law for the second time in the space of a year.

Editor Luvuyo Mjekula asked people in Komani for their thoughts on what action should be taken.

Luzuko Fundile from Elliotdale

When a leader breaks the law, the same measures taken against a person who is not a leader must be taken.

Everyone must be treated equally.

Abu-Baker Sadiq from Pakistan

They must be punished by law, whatever the law of South Africa is. They must be punished, that’s all.

Eddie van Zyl from Grey Street

They must fire them all and replace them with new ones. That is the only solution because they do not do the job right. If they fire them, their colleagues will see what has happened and will do their job right.

Phahlo Bukhweni from Barkly East

It is about consequence management – if the people who are our leaders see no consequences when they transgress, they will keep doing it. The leaders are supposed to be our servants, but it is the other way round.

Bulelwa Socwe from Ndlovukazi

Wrongdoers must be completely removed from society or be prosecuted.
