Seven Stars maintain first place

- ZINTLE BOBELO

Seven Stars are taking the lead again this season after beating fierce rivals Valgas FC 4-2 at the Dumpy Adams Sports Complex on Saturday.

The Stars, who are the current defending champions of the Chris Hani Safa regional league, are looking to put last season’s disappointment of not making promotion at the provincial playoffs behind them.

Stars are now three points clear of nearest rivals Amathole, with a game in hand. The teams are on 16 and 13 points respectively.

It was almost a show of complete dominance by the Stars who came back from a goal down in the first half to lead 2-1 at half time, thanks to the brilliance of Juvian Rooi, who equalised, and to Shaydon Rowland who followed it up with two goals.

Valgas came back stronger, scoring the first goal of the second half, but Seven Stars would prove insurmountable, restoring their two goal lead through a stunning goal by Envor Geduld.

Valgas are currently in eighth place, having accumulated only five points all season.

They will be looking for a comeback when they face Young Minds FC tomorrow at Ilinge.

Seven Stars will hope to continue their winning streak when they face Komani Conquerors FC on Sunday at the Dumpy Adams.

Seven Stars coach Willie Kepkey said the team plans to keep the momentum to maintain first position.
