Mbengo conduct matter ‘internal’
Councillor calls three ANC leaders ‘corrupt’
The 24-hour timeframe for ANC ward 17 councillor Mncedisi Mbengo to give reasons why his alleged act of misconduct should not be considered as a violation of the ANC disciplinary code has lapsed, with no clear indication whether he met the stipulated notice period.
Mbengo, who was issued with a “letter of intent to institute disciplinary” action against him, accused leadership in the ANC regional office of corruption in a recording that was recently circulated.
The Rep reported (“Mbengo goes after regional leadership”, March 26 ) that he had lambasted treasurer Madoda Papiyana and secretary Lusanda Sizani, accusing them of being responsible for collapsing the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, and had called chair Wongama Gela “useless”.
“They want to be decision-makers even in matters that do not concern them,” Mbengo says.
“They have planted their rotten seed and caused division in the branches of the ANC by buying certain members cars so they may side with them and do their dirty work for them.
“They have even employed a DA member to push their illegal deeds from inside the municipality,” he said.
“I was not made by Papiyana, Gela and Sizani, I was made by my patriotism, the revolution and the ANC.
“These young boys just arrived and will remove anyone who dares to disagree with them.
“However, if they want to remove me they must do so by dawn so I may look for a new family that will accept me and allow me to speak against corruption,” Mbengo said in the recording.
In the letter, Sizani stated that Mbengo had acted in breach of the membership oath and that his actions had the potential to bring the ANC into disrepute, to provoke divisions and negatively affect unity in the party, “sowing racism, sexism, tribal chauvinism or any other form of political discrimination”.
When asked for comment on the matter and to state whether Mbengo had submitted reasons for his conduct, regional spokesperson Lusanda Sizani said further proceedings were internal and the matter was between the ANC and Mbengo.
Numerous phone calls to Mbengo by The Rep reporter this week were unanswered.
