New players still finding their feet

Amavarara Football Club only managed to share the spoils after a 0-0 draw with Siyanda FC from Mount Frere in their ABC Motsepe league home game in Ezibeleni on Saturday.

The team only managed to get one point from the draw, leaving Amavarara in fourth place on the stream A log.

The team’s performance appeared to be disoriented due to the new faces in the squad who are still finding their feet playing in a high-level league.

Last week, the local team played to a 1-1 draw against Bisho Stars FC, which apparently was not an easy game with only a point managed.

Amavarara coach Archie Dyeli said he was happy with the day’s draw as there were many chances of losing.

“We did not have a training session with the team playing today.

“I made use of the experienced players to guide the new ones. We did not play well in the first half.

“The players did not keep the shape. Some did not even know what to do when they received the ball.”

On Wednesday, the team was set to face Highbury away in Lusikisiki.

Amavarara chair Lusapho Mzwakali said ace captain and midfielder Ayavuya Gocina, midfielder Lwando Gxaba, winger Kakalethu Velaphi, striker Athenkosi Lafota Erasmus and defender Sibulelo Nikeleo were sent to beef up Spear of the Nation as NFD-level players.

He said the Spear of the Nation, who are leading with 24 points in stream A, had high chances of moving up as the next team to represent the province in the Glad Africa Championship. This was because Bizana’s Pondo Chiefs team, who are representing the province in the championship, were second-last in stream B and were likely to be relegated, he said.

“The players will be sold once the team is promoted, but they will return if the club does not make it,” Mzwakali said.

He said there were two newly signed players from Holy Kings and six new players scouted in a tournament in Zwartwater recently, who had no SAB league experience.
