FACE 2 FACE
With Andisiwe Nguwata an intern at The Rep
A QIWhat do you do? am currently studying office administration at Ikhala College, Queenstown campus. I am doing a national certificate (vocational) level 4 and I am an intern at The Rep.
Q: Are you enjoying being an intern at The Rep?
A: I enjoy being here. The person mentoring me has been very kind and I am learning cool things like how to use office equipment and filing. I also do the visitors’ register for Covid screenings. I learnt about Arena Holdings, the group The Rep is under. That was very interesting.
Q: Why did you decide not to go to high school?
A: I did not have a problem with high school. I made the decision after talking to my aunt who works at Ikhala. She advised me to pursue the vocational training route because I will have experience by the time I have my qualification. I will know exactly what I need to do and be ready for my chosen field.
Q: What careers are you interested in?
A: News reading. I love reading and I am generally curious about what is going on around me. I think it is a career I would enjoy doing. I would also love to be on TV.
Q: How are the challenges facing today’s youth different from those of 1976?
A: Today’s youth is struggling with drugs and crime. Where I live young men are involved in gangs, dropping out of school and contributing to social ills like gender-based violence. We also have a problem with teenage pregnancy.
Q: What place would you like to visit and why?
A: I would love to go to Paris. I think it is interesting. It has it all - great buildings, culture, diversity and a beautiful language.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I like reading stories and poems. I love playing soccer with my friends as well.
Q: What is your favourite season?
A: I like summer. It is warm. It is verdant and beautiful. The days are longer and there is just so much more to get up to.
