Ndlebe re-elected chief whip for EMLM
The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality’s chief whip, mayoral committee members, and municipal public accounts committee were elected in a special council meeting on Wednesday.
Nombuyiselo Ndlebe was appointed chief whip, without being contested, serving her second term in the position.
Her function includes maintaining sound relations and liaising with different political parties to ensure representation in council and council committees, and informing the whips of all parties on important matters on the council agenda.
The chair of the municipal public accounts committee (MPAC), Siphenathi Lali, had the majority votes after he was contested by The Independents’ PR councillor, Ntozelizwe Tom.
The speaker, Noluthando Nqabisa, said 10 committee members would be appointed, with the ANC as the majority allocating six members and the DA, EFF, The Independents and Isanco accounting for a member each.
After MPAC’s appointment, EMLM mayor Thembeka Bunu elected her mayoral committee. Bunu may also delegate any of the mayor’s powers to the respective members, with the right to dismiss any member of the mayoral committee. The mayoral committee is: portfolio head for budget and treasury is Unathi Galada, the technical services head is Mhlangabezi Mangcotywa, Papama Madubedube is corporate services head and Nosipho Papiyana is community services head.
Ongama Adonisi heads the human settlements and land development; Zukiswa Ralani heads the public safety portfolio; Sibusiso Mvana is reappointed as integrated planning and economic development head, and Bukiwe Simina special programmes unit head.
