Join picnic to help beautify amenity

- ZINTLE BOBELO

Youth House SA, a non-profit organisation based in Komani, has jumpstarted its fundraising initiative to help beautify the Komani Memorial public gardens.

Organisation members Songeziwe Cebisa, Thulani Koyana and Stefano Mqobongo will host a festive unlock picnic in the park and are currently sourcing sponsorship and selling entry tickets, the proceeds of which will go towards improving the facility.

“The organisation was formed due to lack of youth activities in our town and also the rapid growth of youth unemployment.

“To add to that, we saw the misuse and vandalism of public parks, hence the intervention,” said Koyana, one of the co-founders.

He said the group aimed to involve 35 young people in the project who would be responsible for the security and cleaning of the park.

“We have approached the municipality for permission to host events every third month to help boost the economy in our town.

“We noticed that young people visit the park for immoral activities. Our event, which will take place on December 11, will be the first towards developing our town.

“A host of activities will take place on the day and local artists will be part of the experience.”

He said the event was a time for family and friends to get together in a fun-filled environment, while adhering to the Covid-19 regulations.

“Our vision is simple. It is to develop the youth and Komani as a whole. We would like to mention and appreciate Uncedo Service Taxi Association and Vuyo Tom for their sponsorship. We would appreciate anyone who would like to assist with sponsorship for the cause,” he said. For more details contact Koyana on 066-0057-566.
