SA’s women’s football team Banyana Banyana made history on Saturday, beating hosts Morocco 2-1 and were crowned Women’s African Cup of Nations champions, sending the country into raptures. The Rep intern, Chuma Joni, asked local residents what their thoughts were on the team’s success.

Don Cedras from Newvale

To be quite honest, it is a

very good thing that happened to South Africa – it takes us back to when Bafana Bafana was winning.

I think it was 1996 when they were winning, it reminds us of when the country was together.

Lukhanyo Khatshi from Ezibeleni

They did well and showed that women should have their own league. That will improve other females.

Penny Barber

from Bergsig

I am not a huge fan of soccer, but what I can say is that we are very proud of their achievement.

Well done to Banyana Banyana for coming home with the Cup.

Zethu Mayephu from Ntabethemba

They worked hard, they really did.

I am not a sport fan but

my son is and congratulations to them and may they continue with the good work.

Lwandile Mateta from Ezibeleni

They did us proud because since 1996 South African teams have got nothing.

The ladies showed that they can and I so wish the government would pay them accordingly because they deserve as much as men do.
