Isanco welcomes two new EM PR councillors
Previous incumbents seeking court order against being replaced
Newly appointed Independent South African National Civic Organisation (Isanco) proportional representation councillors in the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, Mncedisi Mbengo and Mthuthuzeli Qamngana, have committed to focus on rooting out corruption after being sworn in at the Komani magistrate’s court on Friday.
Isanco spokesperson Axolile Masiza said they finally had people who would raise pertinent issues in council on behalf of the organisation.
“The office of Isanco is excited about the current developments and we are looking forward to working hand-in-hand with our communities in addressing what is currently happening locally – road upgrade projects that are being left unattended and employment projects that are designated for certain people.
“The communities need to rally behind us and continue to support the organisation,” said Masiza.
Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality (EMLM) spokesperson Lonwabo Kowa confirmed that the two councillors were sworn in as Enoch Mgijima PR councillors representing Isanco, with the two replacing Anam Njikela and Mzwanele Mxakwe.
Njikela and Mxakwe, meanwhile, are set to apply for a high court order on August 30 to interdict EMLM from removing them as PR councillors.
“The fact that the municipal manager went on with the replacement, whereas there was a council resolution for Isanco to sort out its issues and return with something solid and concrete, does not sit well with me,” said Njikela, who did not want to comment further.
He said the court would deal with the matter.
In response to the notice of motion, Masiza said they were not “threatened” by it.
“As an organisation, we believe in the rule of law and we are not going to further discuss the letter until we are approached by the court.
”The motion they are submitting has nothing to do with us as Isanco. It is only the institutions obligated by law that will facilitate their mandate,” Masiza said.
The fact that the municipal manager went on with the replacement . . . does not sit well with me.
