Alderson Ambulance thanked

-

How often do people, in the course of their jobs, help us? How often do we mean to say thank you, but do not get around to it?

Do we do something to say ‘thank you for caring’? No, not often enough.

One person, Annetjie Makowem, was so impressed and moved by the team from Alderson Ambulance Services who, during the night, had transferred her from the Life Queenstown Private Hospital intensive care unit (ICU) to the ICU at St Dominics Hospital in East London.

Makowem approached Len’s News to write a piece on her behalf thanking the staff of Alderson Ambulance for their professionalism and for safely transporting her.

They each had their own chores, yet they still made time to ascertain if she was comfortable. Siya Shai, Lukholo Manqina and the driver, Sabelo Masayi, were the team on duty that night.

Manqina said it was important to reassure the patient. He said the job came with different emotions, tears, stress and agitation. It was up to the ambulance crew to calm every situation, and reassure, while holding the patient’s hand, that they will look after them.

Though Makowem’s trip was a few months ago, Manqina was quick to recall a conversation he had with Makowem about a visit to the UK to see her son.

He also remembered Makowem had talked of her and her son’s shared love of motor racing.

Makowem, Manqina and Masayi were all present in an interview with Len’s News recently.

The crew have a passion for what they do and are constantly looking for ways to improve.

Thank you, Alderson, for the amazing people they have chosen and trained, and continue to train. We, the public, are grateful for the staff, for keeping patients safe and making sure they are safely transported.
