Chief Jeptha honours friend Charl Redcliffe

-

Chief Theo Jeptha of the San Bushman (Oeswana tribe) of Komani visited the family of the late Charl Redcliffe in Victoria Park.

Redcliffe died earlier this year at the age of 41.

He had represented Hangklip High School as a legendary athlete and first team rugby player, and had also been deputy head boy at the institution.

“Charl set sprinting records that Komani, the Eastern Cape, and a large part of SA and Africa, has never seen.

“He truly put Hangklip and SA on the map when it came to athletics,” Chief Jeptha said.

“Charl went on to run in the junior Olympics in Shanghai, China, when he was in grade 11.

“He was just one of a kind. I put Charl up there with the likes of Herschelle Gibbs, the Wayde van Niekerks, the Cheslin Kolbes, the Makhaya Ntinis and the Jonty Rhodeses of this world.

“A big part of my visit to Charl Redcliffe’s family was to ask their blessing to rename something amazing after my legend friend. Something like a sports field or an athletics track, because of the amazing work he has done,” he added.

Chief Jeptha said Redcliffe was a friend, an amazing son, a brother, partner and father, and continued to describe him as an Olympic star.

“Charl received the best support from his sporting family; fans; friends with whom he grew up and went to school.

“Friends from as far as London in the UK were absolutely shocked by the passing of our legendary friend.

“He was loved,” Chief Jeptha said.

May his legacy live on.”
