Guns, ammunition haul in Chris Hani District

In an effort to combat crime, police in the Chris Hani District have been conducting operations throughout the district which have yielded positive results.

Police spokespers­on Captain Namhla Mdleleni said suspects were arrested for carrying unlicensed firearms at the Beyele Adminstrat­ive Area on Sunday.

“Members quickly responded to the informatio­n of suspects being in possession of suspected firearms.

“Three suspects between 24-29 years were arrested, and four firearms and 40 live ammunition [rounds] recovered.

The suspects will appear before the Ngcobo Magistrate’s Court soon.

A total of 154 suspects were arrested and nine suspects were issued with warrants of arrest, Mdleleni added. Members also recovered suspected stolen goods after a case of housebreak­ing was reported at Thornhill.”

Chris Hani District commission­er Major-General Rudolph Adolph commended the members for being dedicated.
