The Zone 3 neighborhood patrollers recovered a stolen 67-inch plasma TV worth R10,000 and then sold for only R2,000 and a Playstation 4 bought by a panel beater in Scanlen Street, Komani.

According to Zone 3 neighborhood patroller Ntandazo Prusent, a resident whose house had been broken into informed them about the two stolen items in the first week of November.

He said that the woman had opened a case of theft at Ezibeleni police station.

“We asked her if she suspected anyone, and we committed to do our best to assist her.

“We found out that a young person who had stolen the items had sold them to someone in Ezibeleni who, later, also sold them to a panel beater,” Prusent said.

He said they has found the items ditched near one of the containers in Scanlen Street. But they could not find the man who had bought the stolen goods when they went to his place of work.

“We could not get any information from the foreign nationals who worked with the panel beater. There was no truth (from them). They even identified themselves as Friday and Monday,” he said.

“We want the one who stole the electronic devices, the person who bought and sold and the one who was on the receiving end to be placed in jail,” said Prusent.

He indicated that they took the recovered plasma screen TV and the Playstation to the police, who then told them to return the items to the owner.

“The police said we should continue with the investigation.”

This was not the first incident where they had recovered stolen items in Komani.

In a separate incident, Prusent said had they recovered bedroom linen, blankets and dishes.

He said the municipality was failing them because the high-mast lights were not working in their residential area and that Eskom’s loadshedding contributed a great deal as most house break-ins happened during then in the townships.

Police spokesperson Captain Namhla Mdleleni had not responded at the time of going to print.
