Assistance to help feed pupils, pay teachers

The Chris Hani regional ANC leadership made education a priority when visiting Mceula Senior Secondary School in Cala to hand over R20,000, among other donations recently.

The handover was part of a Letsema campaign held in the Sakhisizwe sub-region, led by regional treasurer Andile Mini and regional deputy secretary Madoda Papiyana.

Should the school reach an 80% matric pass rate, the ANC leadership also pledged to cover university fees for two top male and female achievers.

“We were here not so long ago and we received a report that there were two teachers employed by the school governing body.

“They relied on financial contributions made by parents to pay their salaries but this was not going according to plan.

“We then also committed to give out a portion of the funds for a period of 12 months. As the ANC, we have also signed that contract,” said Mini.

“The ANC has also committed to signing a threeyear contract for the school to have internet access,” he added.

Mini said the school was

under effective leadership. Principal Senzele Makhunga said the R20,000 donation would go towards providing nutritious meals for pupils and the school’s vision of turning the institution into a boarding school.

“The aim is to give scholars a chance at a brighter future and

this donation will serve as a motivation and will inspire pupils to work hard.

“I am thrilled to have received such a donation.

“This is only the beginning of greater things,” said Makhunga.

School president Siyamthanda Kulu said the Mceula pupils’ gratitude would

have to be in the form of improved academic results.

“There were times where we could see our principal was frustrated due to lack of funds at the school, this donation could not have come at a better time.

“May the ANC and its leadership continue to better the lives of young people.”
