Rugby tourney with a difference
A rugby tournament will be held tomorrow, Saturday, at the Hangklip High School Sports Grounds, courtesy of passionate rugby individuals in Komani.
This year’s rugby tournament is the brainchild of Razaak Jekels, an ardent rugby administrator of the Progress Rugby Football Club.
The Komani Tourney spokesperson Cliff Pringle said the purpose of the event was to grow and promote the game of rugby in the broader Chris Hani region and Border as a whole.
“This year’s event will be different from similar tournament in that it will offer Dads and Lads rugby games, hockey, netball and many more activities. Food stalls will be available and a warm hand of welcome is extended to all and sundry in Komani,” said Pringle.
Non-profit organisations Arms of Mercy and Child Welfare will benefit, receiving a percentage of the proceeds generated on the day.
“We are expecting several teams from across the province and the country as a whole to participate in the tournament.
“We believe that rugby and sporting activities in general build sound human relations and what better way to end your year off in style.
“A sincere thanks to Hangklip High School, the sponsors, sporting administrators, players, The Rep and all other media outlets for their contributions in making this tournament a huge success,” Pringle said.
All interested clubs are requested to contact Jekels on 067-998-4073 for registration of food stalls, rugby teams and other information.
