Dam race proves great fun for all

- LEN’S NEWS

Anything That Floats was a fun and well-organised event by Bowes McDougall Attorneys in partnership with Queenstown Rotary Club and the Yacht Club.

Although the weather was not as great, Komani people still came and supported the event, with over 500 people making their way to the gates of the Bonkolo Dam on Saturday.

First place in the water race went to Komani Plumbing, in second place was Union Diesel, and Queenstown Engineering, aka The Stingrays, took the third spot.

Competitors and their supporters put in plenty of effort with creating their crafts. Many held their breaths and prayed when the Orange Team of the Van Oostens came into view, complete with skip and all.

Everyone was l sure that it would sink, being more than 270kg in weight. But it did not, so well done to that team.

The Pixie Dixies, the only Woman’s Team, from Bowes and McDougall’s, were looking particularly bright and cheerful in their pixie outfits as the various entries arrived and were put into the water.

One got the feeling the participants had all taken a lot of trouble and time and thought into creating and building a craft that would float and survive the race.

The Komani Plumbers team seemed to have the most minimalist craft on the water, with very few distractions to keep them from winning. It was an amazing race and they were constantly at the front, rowing.

Meanwhile, the Vintage Car Club team cleaned and polished their lovely old cars and brought them to display at the dam.

The Rotary “Guess where the sheep was?” competition was won by Jenna Peltenberg.
