Seven Stars draw with Gqeberha team

Red card sees oponents level

- ABONGILE SOLUNDWANA

Seven Stars FC lost two points in their home game after reaching a 1-1 tie with Hanley FC from Gqeberha at the Dumpy Adams Sports Complex on Saturday. This means the local team will still occupy the sixth position in the ABC Motsepe stream B log, which consists of nine teams.

Seven Stars had a good start and the team had control over the game in the first half. This resulted in striker Shaydon Rowland converting a goal from a through ball which was supplied by central midfielder Luvo Dawethi in the penalty box during the first ten minutes into the game.

Within a few minutes before half-time midfielder Morne Smith received a yellow card for foul play.

But the coach could not risk another red card episode and in the second half Smith was substituted by centre forward Buhle Bokado.

But that did not work as Bokado was served with a red card for misconduct just ten minutes into the game.

It was one man down for the local team and 25 minutes later, Hanley FC capitalised from the slip-off that emanated from the goalkeeper throwing the ball inside the box which was intercepted and turned into a goal. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Seven Stars coach Yongama Kepkey was not happy with how the team performed in the second half.

“We controlled our game in the first half and managed to score an early goal. In the second half I decided to take out Smith because I feared we might get a red card and put in Bokado, who came in and got a red card. In two games we had red cards so that is why I was a little bit scared.”

Last week Seven Stars lost against Relative FC by 1-0 in East London. This Saturday they are set to face off against Jacaranda FC in Mthatha.

Kepkey is confident that they will return with more points in their away game to Mthatha tomorrow.

“Jacaranda is in the seventh position of the log so we should be able to beat them,” he said.
