Another home loss for bruised Seven Stars

Coach working on issues after Amampondo beat Komani side

- UVIWE JARA

even Stars suffered yet another blow on the weekend after being thrashed 2-0 by Amampondo United at the Dumpy Adams Sport Complex.

Seven Stars, the only Komani side playing in the ABC Motsepe provincial league, have not yet registered a win this season, and have lost two home games.

Stars were the first team to attack in their clash against Amampondo, but their hard work did not yield any results.

Despite the pressure from the home side, the visitors, from Lusikisiki, would not back down.

Amampondo scored their

Sfirst goal after a Seven Stars defender failed to clear the ball from the box, leaving the goalkeeper having to face a oneon-one with an Amampondo player who netted the ball using the side of his boot.

Amampondo’s solid defense and perfect execution of their game plan saw them leading by one goal at halftime.

As soon as the second half whistle was blown, Seven Stars kept on knocking on Amampondo ’ s door, but the visitors ’ strong defense kept them at bay.

While Seven Stars searched for an equaliser, Amampondo extended their lead in the second half.

Amampondo coach Samkelo Majova said: “We did very well, we applied group and team tactics.

“The players played according to the instructions.

“This was our first game and we are happy that we managed to start the season on a positive note with the help of Hlompho and Promise who scored our two goals.”

Seven Stars coach Archie Dyeli said: “It was my first game as the coach of the team and everything was positive up until today.

“I don ’ t know what happened to the boys.

“The game plan was to allow them with the ball in the last third because we didn’t want to press too high.”

He said they wanted to press Amampondo from the middle and possibly beat them on a counter.

“When we did that, we had two chances to score but we couldn’t score and they got two silly chances and scored against us,” said Dyeli.

He added that it seemed his players had panicked and pushed too hard to prove themselves, making mistakes as a result.

“They rushed everything, they rushed decisions and that ’ s when I had to make some changes and those changes helped us a lot. We managed to keep the ball.

“At least now I know what to work on from Monday in preparation for our next game which will be at home on Saturday,” he said.
