Seven Stars Football Club suffered yet another defeat in the ABC Motsepe League after they were thrashed 3-2 by Ayliff City FC at the Dumpy Adams Sport Complex on Saturday.

The home side was the first to score in the early minutes of the game, to the excitement of the packed stadium.

They increased the score to 2-0 within less than ten minutes of play, before the visitors pulled one back.

Seven Stars’ change in their attacking football saw the visitors scoring the second goal, bringing the score to 2-2 at the halftime break.

Something might have been said to the visitors’ bench as they came back like a house on fire in the second stanza, scoring their third goal and stealing the game away from Seven Stars.

Going to Saturday ’ s game, Seven Stars were in last position on the log, with no points in three games.

Seven Stars coach, Archie Dyeli, was hoping the team would redeem themselves after coming from a 3-0 loss against an experienced Highbury side recently.

Speaking to The Rep, Dyeli said: “We were going to play an attacking game and put the visitors under pressure.

“We pressed them in their own half and managed to score two quick goals,” he said.

Dyeli said the visitors managed to score twice before going to the break after his team lost focus.

“I told the players to continue playing their own game and unfortunately they did not do as I told them and the visitors scored the third goal, stealing all three points,” he said.

Ayliff City coach Linda Mtebhele said his team was caught sleeping in the early minutes of the game.

“We managed to score two goals before halftime and my team listened to my advice,” he said.

“The game was difficult as we were playing our away game against a team that has not won a game at home,” Mtebhele said.

He said Seven Stars had no structure, which made it difficult for them to prepare for the game.

“We came home with all three points despite having a young team which is still trying to get its feet into the ABC Motsepe League.”

He said Seven Stars “should have defended and caught us on counter attacks and they could have beaten us clean.”
