Fuma nominated for an award
Entrepreneur nominated in humanitarian of the year category
Masonwabe Fuma, a marketing maven, global business speaker, multi award-winning entrepreneur, investor, facilitator, activist and leader, has been nominated for the 2024 Emerge Africa Awards.
Fuma is the managing director of Sakhulutsha eAfrika, a social enterprise for youth development, advisory, local enterprise, and research.
The 2024 Emerge Africa Awards are aimed at honouring and celebrating a cross-section of the most influential individuals, brands and organisations from a wide range of industries and who are making a difference on the African continent.
“I received communication (an email), informing me that I had been nominated for these prestigious awards for the ‘humanitarian of the year’ category.
“The awards have a voting portal, where the public can vote.
“I’m humbly requesting that the public votes for me to bring this award home.
“They can vote by SMSing ‘AFRICA 108’ to 37587,” he said.
“Each SMS costs R5 and free SMSs don’t apply.
“The voting line will close on March 30.
“The award ceremony will take place in Johannesburg in April,” he said.
Fuma said he had a deep commitment to social justice, and he was seeking it for all who were marginalised and living in squalor conditions, and he did that through the various projects he was involved in.
“I’m a foot soldier in this long relay of Africa’s development, and so I try and respond to existing problems with practical programs, projects and initiatives.
“In so doing, I also encourage progressive professionals and businesses to also play an active role.
“Nowhere in the history of this world have we seen countries come out of the quagmire without the assistance of business,” Fuma said.
He runs Sakhulutsha eAfrika with an aim of developing youth, local enterprise, advisory and research.
“With a wide range of work already done in the youth development space and across the country, programmes such as the Masonwabe Fuma bursary fund, Masonwabe Fuma Excellence Awards, leadership and entrepreneurship talks, we are now looking at ways of empowering young people in the Chris Hani district in 2024,” he said.
He plans on empowering the youth through grade 12 leadership development and career guidance programmes along with the Isiqalo Rugby Coaching Clinic.
These programmes will target young people from selected schools within the district — Komani, Cacadu, Cala, Cofimvaba and Engcobo.
“We also have standing partnerships with organisations such as the National Youth Development Agency,” Fuma said.
