Nokwanda Primary School celebrates achievements
Awards – and more awards – rained on Nokwanda Primary on Friday.
It was a jovial assembly as a remarkable 16 Ezibeleni Circuit 2023 awards for English, history, natural sciences, as well as teaching excellence and more were announced.
Principal Funeka Rozani received two awards – a Nkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History award and Best Teacher in English first additional language.
Teachers who received awards included: Noloyiso Mbeki – natural sciences (NS) Olympiads and Best Teacher in NS and Tech; Khonzeka Nkuhlu – Nkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History (letter writing) and an isiXhosa poem that reached the provincial level; Nomampondomise Ranelo – Best Teacher in NS and Tech, Astro-Quiz, Nkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History (story writing); Nomhle Matiso-Ntaba – Best Teacher IsiXhosa Ulwimi Lwasekhaya, Reals-SA Radio Presenter (public reading; and Neliswa Mgemane – Best Teacher Social Sciences, Nkosi Albert Luthuli Oral History (storytelling).
The school itself received three awards – a well managed school, best cricket team and best performer in the Southern Africa Society for Cooperative Education.
The awards kept on coming. Pupil Lumilele Tyatyeka won a spelling bee celebrating World
Book Day and Ayanda Saliwa took third place in isiXhosa.
Matiso-Ntaba, head of languages, said: “We are very happy with this achievement. This school has a bright future.
“We are here to develop the children of South Africa and Ezibeleni.”
Rozani said the school was extremely proud of its pupils, as well as its teachers “because we work hard to shape the future of these learners and in most times we feel like we are neglected.
“When we are given recognition, it motivates us. We want to work even harder.”
SGB chair Mabhuti Samente said the SGB and parents were thrilled that the teachers were acknowledged for their efforts and dedication.
