The African Transformation Movement’s (ATM) two-day soccer tournament in Xolobe, Tsomo, came to a thrilling conclusion on Sunday when Fast Eleven emerged as champions, defeating Liverpool 4-2.

Black Stars finished third. The victorious teams were awarded cash prizes, gold and silver medals, soccer balls, and kit.

The knockout tournament was contested by 11 teams and involved 160 players who kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

ATM representative Lwazi Kelembe said a highlight was the nailbiting semifinal match when Fast Eleven and Green Lovers played an electrifying game that ended in a 3-3 tie.

This led to a dramatic penalty shootout with Fast Eleven edging out their fierce rivals 8-7.

Kelembe said the final was incredibly intense.

Liverpool had the upper hand after scoring a goal at the start of the match, but one minute later Fast Eleven fought back and scored an equaliser.

The game reached full time at 1-1 and went to penalties, where Fast Eleven emerged victorious 4-2.

Kelembe said: “The tournament was a great success. The weather was great.

“Spectators sang and danced, others engaged in social media challenges, all of which brought excitement to the players on the field.

“All the players wanted their team to take home the first prize.

“The players were tired during the final but none of the teams gave up until the last minute — and the spectators gave them the energy and excitement to continue fighting.”

Kembe, who sponsored the tournament, said the players were delighted.

Among those present was the chief of Xolobe, Jongisizwe Ngcongoloalong and ATM leaders from their women’s executive and youth league.
