◆ Use cash rather than a credit card

Research shows if you pay with cash instead of a credit card, you will generally spend less because you can see what you are spending. If you carry R100 notes you are less likely to break one, which saves you from making impulse buys. A study has also shown that when you list everything you need, you will save money as you will buy only what is on the list.

All sales reps have quotas to meet every month so, if you can wait until the end of the month to make a big purchase, you can potentially save a lot of money. If a salesperson has had a slow month they might be willing to give you a discount so they they can meet their target. Stores usually have sales during month-end.
