Outage delays bail hearing
ESKOM load shedding yesterday delayed the bail hearing of Vusi Ernest Mabaso, 27, and Fita Khupe, 61, jointly accused of the murder of seven members of the Khoza family at their Vlakfontein home.
The bodies of the dead, among them four children, concealed under piles of sand inside the house, were found after neighbours raised the alarm over a foul smell coming from the Khozas’ home.
The case, which was moved from the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court to Soweto’s Protea Magistrate’s Court because of power outages, was again plagued by electricity problems yesterday.
“The matter cannot proceed without electricity, so let’s wait until 1 o’clock, then if it doesn’t come back we will postpone,” said magistrate David Mango. On Tuesday, it was postponed as one of the accused fell ill.
